Stefano Bellu
The artisan
Stefano Bellu learnt the art of knife making from an old Pattada cutler's workshop, at the heart of the island territory, specialized in the crafting of sa resolza pattadesa , the traditional jack knife. In 2004 he opened his own workshop where he crafts traditional shepherd's knives, symbols of the logudorese area, with their unique and exclusive shapes and sophisticated technical procedures. Stefano Bellu's knives feature simple and elegant handles and thin blades with their typical myrtle leaf shape, crafted according to the traditional work processes.
The collection
Stefano Bellu's production of the knives strictly follows the models and the traditional working Pattada techniques. These well-crafted artefacts combine aesthetics and functionality, responding to specific collector's requests and, more generally, to the demand of enthusiasts of craftsmanship and local identity.
The technique
The artisan crafts the traditional pattadese jack knives, starting with the creation of the handle, that consists of two halves made of buffalo or mutton horns, mounted on a metal core, followed by the crafting of a steel blade, typically shaped as a myrtle leaf, and of the joint system featuring decorated brass pin and ring.
