The artisan

Pinuccio Marongiu’s handicraft production, realised in his workshop Laboratori Artigiani, reveals his sensitive and invaluable knowledge of the material, his ability to exploit its characteristics by interpreting the grain and twists so as to produce striking objects that, with a refined design, revive the original essence of wood giving it new life and form. Pinuccio approached the artisanal techniques when he was very young in his village, Ilbono, where in the 1970s he started his business in a lively context of handicraft production covering several sectors. His production stood out from the very start for the artisan’s expertise and ability in using and interpreting the material, enhancing its every feature whilst respecting its nature. In 1991 Pinuccio moved his workshop to Tortolì, a small town in the region of Ogliastra which is set in a breath-taking naturalistic context of crystal-clear sea, woods and Mediterranean scrub. Currently his business is well regarded and sought after across the region for the excellent craftsmanship. Gifted with sensitivity and a natural talent, he became a close friend of the artist Maria Lai, and he works with untiring inspiration in the picturesque natural setting of his workshop in Tortolì, with the invaluable support of his son Marco, with whom he shares an innate love for nature, art and poetry in a dialogue that consolidates itself with each new experimental creation and which involves all his close-knit family.

The collection

The production of Pinuccio Marongiu’s Laboratori Artigiani, recognisable for the ability to enhance the natural forms of exclusively Sardinian wood, counts a new line of furniture, Intrecci, made as a single piece entirely by hand, in which the structure in Sardinian chestnut wood is elegantly intertwined with hemp rope in a solid and striking combination that evokes synergies and dynamic bonds. Each artefact, from sofas to armchairs to tables up to beautiful cradles, is characterised by exclusive forms featuring the complex original intertwining of ropes. Laboratori Artigiani is renowned for its consolidated experience in the highly customised creation of rooms in which the furniture, truss beams, verandas, roofs and all the visible structural parts of the home are realised as part of an integrated project with exclusive organic aesthetics, also obtained by combining hand cut and worked stone and iron so as to ensure a unique production.

The technique

All woodwork is realised by hand according to a refined design that adapts and takes full advantage of the natural features and beauty of the wood, using only local varieties, such as Sardinian chestnut wood. The new furniture line, Intrecci, is realised using hand-woven hemp rope according to a particular individual process so as to make sure that the tension is correct. In addition, pearl-grey Sardinian granite and iron are also used to create organic projects of particular and exclusive aesthetic and manufacturing value.
