Su Ballu tapestry panel
The artefact
These three decorative panels depict the typical charismatic Sardinian dance, su ballu tundu, rich in archaic rituals and propitiatory meanings, with stylised male and female figures, typical decorative elements of local weaving. Made entirely by hand, they come in three variants that include the use of plant fibres of the asphodel, taken from the weaving of baskets, brocade strips which are evocative of traditional costumes and natural Sardinian wool. They belong to the 150Mani Collection created to celebrate the one hundred and fiftieth anniversary of the Unification of Italy, bringing together works of handicraft excellence from all over Italy.
