The artisan

An evocative and pleasant atmosphere is perceived at Giancarlo Moi's workshop, where his family also works, his wife Carla and his daughters Lisa and Giulia, who work as professional goldsmiths, having studied at the Scuola Arte e Mestieri di Vicenza and the Accademia delle Arti Orafe of Rome, respectively.  Giancarlo Moi's experience as a professional starts far away in the past. He graduated as a goldsmith model maker and engraver at the Scuola di Arte e Mestieri di Vicenza and honed his skills in various workshops of the area of Vicenza. After gaining experience on the Peninsula, he came back to Sardinia, where he learnt filigree crafting as a self-taught man, carrying outresearch, making faithful copies of traditional jewels and trying out new interpretations. Since 1984, he has run his own business specialized in the production of traditional Sardinian jewels. His extensive expertise, together with the research of new technical solutions, led to the creation of a number of collections that reinterpreted traditional Sardinian models in an original way.

The collection

In 2006 the INKORO collection was launched, as part of a project in collaboration with Sardegna Ricerche, curated by architect and designer Angelo Mangiarotti and shared with four other Sardinian goldsmiths. Being intended to promote the precious art of Sardinian filigree making, the project led to the creation of light base consisting of a light and flexible mail that could suit uncountable and sophisticated compositions. the modulation of the metal grid generated by the matrix is the distinctive mark of this goldsmith. The workshop also produces gold and silver artefacts, reinterpreting traditional Sardinian jewels in a more contemporary fashion.

The technique

Classic goldsmith's techniques, acquired during his experiences as an apprentice at several Vicenza jeweller's workshops, where they are performed with great skill and mastery. Worth-mentioning the process used to create the INKORO collection, that offers a reinterpretation of filigree making through the experience and intuition that combine model making and modern goldsmith's art.
